Allegations of police torture in Hunza, citizen seeks FIR against officials
The petition highlights that despite multiple requests, the local police refused to register an FIR against the officers involved
In a startling development, a local citizen has approached the court to seek the registration of an FIR against police officials in Nasirabad, Hunza, alleging severe custodial torture and violation of fundamental rights.
According to the petition filed by Inshal Amin, a resident of Karimabad, Hunza, he was arrested on March 8, 2025, by local police in connection with FIR No. 01/2025 under Section ¾ of the EHO 1979. The petition claims that while in custody at Nasirabad Police Station, he was subjected to extreme torture, in clear violation of constitutional rights and established principles of criminal jurisprudence.
The complaint further states that when the matter was brought before SP Hunza at Aliabad, instead of taking action against the responsible officers, the SP allegedly ordered further torture. As a result, the accused suffered severe beatings, leading to a fractured leg.
The petition highlights that despite multiple requests, the local police refused to register an FIR against the officers involved. Consequently, Inshal Amin has sought the court’s intervention under Section 22-A(6)(i) of the CrPC to direct the authorities to register a case against the SHO of Nasirabad Police Station and SP Hunza for their alleged misconduct.
The case raises serious concerns about police brutality and accountability in the region. The petitioner’s counsel, Advocate Ahtisham Ullah Baig, has urged the court to ensure justice by holding the responsible officials accountable under relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and CrPC.
Meanwhile, SP Hunza has reportedly said that the allegations are false and that there has not been any torture in the said case.
